Thank you for following :D

Worst. Movie. Ever.

Everything in it was horrible! I cried for several nights after seeing it with utter disappointment…

Bad acting, bad story, bad graphics, BAAAAAAD. And for those looking for detailed information why it was bad just know you shouldn’t see it. Just don’t and your life will be fine! [you know who i am talking to].

I now rank movies from great to Speed Racer…

[no stars]

I remember this movie came out at the beginning of the year and all my friends were greatly intrigued to see it because all of us are hispanic (well me being half). All the usual stereotypical mexican references were in the trailer (the “homies” in their low rider with complete hydraulics, the older mexican women sewing in the living room and freaking out because they think the guy at the front door is immigration, and of course the churros). It had many known stars as well like Alexa Vega from Spy Kids and Wilmer Valderrama from That 70’s Show

But for some reason we never actually saw it. So I went on netflix yesterday and noticed it was on instant play and I just had to watch it. I never realized the movie was based on Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility which happened to be the one and only Jane Austen book I ever read. Not only that, but Ang Lee’s 1995 movie with Alan Rickman and Kate Winslet is one of my favorite chick flicks to watch. So with all this being said, I was immediately judging and comparing this movie.

It started out introducing the two protagonist women (and I say women because I totally thought they were playing teens in the trailer, but apparently they are 24). We have Nora (Camilla Belle), the smart, law student who never parties and is completely focused on her blossoming career, and then there is Mary who is the complete opposite. They live in a huge mansion in LA with their father (mustache and all). So their father ends up dying and at the funeral they discover that they have a half brother who was a basterd son because their father had an affair with their mother back in the day. But unfortunately he is married to a complete *insert cuss word here* and she ends up convincing her husband to buy the home and eventually kicking the two sisters out.

So where else do they have to go besides a hotel? Why, east LA of course! and for those of you who don’t know whats in east LA… well, according to this movie, these people are…

Aside from the usual plot line of Sense and Sensibility, Nora helps fight a legal battle for some hispanic women in the neighborhood with the help of her on-screen romantic interest, Edward played by Nicholas D’Agosto. Nick has been in such movies as Fired-Up and Rocket Science. I recognized him in the trailer and… Ok, I am not usually the kind of girl who sees a movie solely for the hot actors, but then again it does help my interest in seeing the movie… just saying.

In conclusion, this movie was a fun ride for what it was. Being hispanic helped enjoy the cultural jokes and reading Jane Austen’s book before watching this also made it fun to pick out the comparisons. I think this movie lacked something though. Something that made the original Sense and Sensibility magical and enchanting. But then again they probably made this for sh*ts and giggles. I don’t expect an academy award nomination, but if you like movies like 17 Again or Just My Luck then you will rather enjoy this. As for me I am glad I waited till it came out on Netflix to see it rather than waste $7 at the theater.

★★

This movie stars actress Meryl Streep (who looks impeccably similar to Mrs. Doubtfire), actor Stanley Tucci (is he gay in real life? Must look up later), and actress Amy Adams (ripping off Miranda’s haircut from Sex in the City).

It starts out from two different sides of the world (France and New York). While Julia (Streep) is in love with her fancy new home, Julie (Adams), on the other hand, is regretting the “900 square feet” of apartment space in Queens (which if she doesn’t want I will totally take). Julie has a job as a person who answers the phone to hear people’s sad stories of 9/11 and complaints about the new memorial… God, I think I would kill myself! Stick to cooking, Honey!

After lunch with her snobby, stuck-up friends, she decides to do a blog (but not about how much she loves Queens, if you were wondering). Nope, cooking (and to find out, she is also from Texas… the character, not Amy Adams)! I find this rather funny as I am blogging about a project I hope to finish just like Julie. She gives the reason for her never finishing anything is her ADD… hmmm… Maybe I have ADD?

Ok, we are back in Paris where Julia takes lessons in learning Bridge as well as speaking french so she can read the french cookbooks (which are, unfortunately, not in english). Oh! Stanley Tucci’s character isn’t gay in this movie (shocking since every movie I have seen lately, including Burlesque, he is)!

“You can never have too much butter.” Wise words from Julie who makes most of her meals with lots of butter. Too bad that with great butter comes great exercise. And with that being said, I hope the Rec Center is open monday along with the whole entire campus! But I am rambling… Another good quote was “What do you think it means if you don’t like your friends?” and Julie’s friend replies with “It is completely normal.” Thank you… I feel slightly relieved now!

So we are back in France and I don’t understand why everyone is dressed like they are from the 40s. They even have typewriters! Did I miss something at the beginning? Anyways, Julia is taking french cooking classes and failing slightly. Oh… wait… just kidding! She is a star pupil! And I figured out why they are dressed like they are from the 40s… It is because they are in the 40s! It is a flashback (wow I feel slow). But Julia’s voice is really getting on my nerves. But not as bad as her sister, played by Jane Lynch, who marries a really short guy (although he maybe be average height being that Jane is a giant!)

All in all this movie is all about accomplishing your goals and finding happiness in doing something you love. It had its lagging moments (for example, the moment when Julie got depressed over cooking being too hard) and I was slightly disappointed by the end of the movie only because it kinda just ended. Julie completed her blog and Julia published her book. No exciting meeting of the two. No cancer that seems to be the Achilles ankle of dramas. Just a happy movie about cooking and about real events twisted in the hollywood style of movie making to produce pure entertainment.
